Virtual Police Experience

Information

Given the COVID-19 pandemic and the cancellation of the annual Delta Police Student Police Academy, a plan was developed to provide a virtual youth experience in keeping with the current situation. The Delta Police Department (DPD) will be holding a Virtual Police Experience (VPE) for Delta School District students, and a limited number of students from other districts. The virtual experience will allow for a large number of participants (up to 100).

Students currently in grades 10-12 will be able to participate in VPE. Much like Student Police Academy, students will be required to commit to approximately three hours of study a day, for four days (Tuesday – Friday). Videos and activity related content will be pre-recorded and uploaded to the DPD website by 2 p.m. the day before, to encourage students with scheduling challenges (work etc.) to participate.

Students will be required to complete their independent work between 2 p.m. the day before, up to 12:30 p.m. the next day. From 1 – 2 p.m., a panel of DPD officers will virtually follow up and answer questions. Following this, materials for the next day will be made available.

At the end of the VPE, three students will be chosen to tour the new Regional Municipal Training Centre (RMTC) Virtual Simulator at a later date (sometime in September).
